By creating a comfortable space for children to look at books, children become more drawn to the library area, and their interest in books expands. Because the library area is also a quiet area for children, creating a comfortable space allows children to have a place to relax. Some of the children even use this quiet area as a place for self-management, where they control their emotions. This place should provide feelings of warmth and comfort, and allow children to feel at home. By providing couches and a bench for the children to relax and enjoy a book, we are creating a space for them to sit down and enjoy some down time.
It is never too early to become interested in books! Although my children are at a young age, some as young as two years old, they have already shown an interest in reading and even pretend to read to each other. Displaying the books on a shelf that allows the children to see the cover easily will allow them to explore all of the different books provided to them, and improves accessibility to the books.
