Characters in books hold a special place in our hearts, and this project will guarantee that my students will see characters that represent them in a multitude of ways. Representation is a huge way to get students involved and excited about their literacy learning and will help them to enjoy the books that they're reading! These books will help all the students in my class feel represented and valued. My students will able to learn the beauty of our diverse world. These texts will also be used throughout the year to discuss various social issues, complex societal norms, and various holidays that they may already be curious about. They will help us grow as a classroom community and also as readers! Using books to connect to each other and the world can make a huge impact on kids, and this project will do that in a big way!
