A communication board is a great tool for a nonverbal student to interact with classmates, teachers, and other school personnel. The goal is to give each student a way to communicate wants and needs, demonstrate learning progress, and socially engage. Some of these students will go on to use more sophisticated forms of augmented communication, and some of these students will use the communication board as they acquire verbal language skills. Communication is the key to inclusiveness. I want each student in our school to have a way to express themselves. Communication boards can be easily produced and personalized to the student and situation. These boards are most effective when they are in color, because the pictured object can more closely represent the actual object. Thank you for taking the time to learn about my students.
