The "Chemical Engineering Challenge" is a fun competition where students design, build and sell a chemical thermal pack. In this chemistry unit, students will be engaged in a multitude of hands-on chemistry experiments which will include molecular modeling and mixing various chemicals to observe different chemical reactions. In the end of the unit, students will apply their knowledge by designing, building and testing a thermal pack prototype. In the end, students will create a commercial and marketing materials to try to sell their product to the public. This engaging chemical engineering project will have students work in teams of 4 and focus on the engineering design (iteration) process, business/marketing and chemistry. This unit is a blast and is very NGSS-aligned.
