“Whether you want to uncover the secrets of the universe, or you just want to pursue a career in the 21st century, basic computer programming is an essential skill to learn.” —Stephen Hawking, Theoretical Physicist, Cosmologist, Author Beebots are small robots that can be coded to move along a grid. Educators and students can create grids that have a variety of information that integrates literacy, math, social studies, and the sciences. Students can code the robot to spell a word, retell a story, create a sentence, solve a math equation, move along a map, or follow the stages of a life cycle. Our Beebots will be used for students in Pre-K to 5th grade. Besides being an impactful way to integrate coding into their academic foundational skills, students will also increase their collaborative skills by working together in pairs and groups to code the bot. As an educator, I need to prepare my students for careers in the future, and coding will be a big part of that, no matter what field they will be in! Something as simple as a small programmable bot that can be used in everyday lessons can create the idea that coding is part of our everyday life and isn't just a skill but the language of the future. The BeeBots will be used by all students in our building!
