These materials will help students further develop their fine motor skills while supporting their foundational skill acquisition. Being able to manipulate objects makes learning more fun and interesting. They help to meet students' various learning needs while keeping the students engaged.
Outside of school, our students are not always provided with opportunites that foster their foundational and fine motor skills. As a teacher who has worked with students from kinder through sixth grade, I see the impact the lack of foundational and fine motor skills has on students. The beads will help support skills such as making works, counting, sorting, and patterns to name a few. Having to handle the beads helps develop the muscles in their hands. Which in turn will help them properly hold a pencil and be able to write letters legibly.
The Playdough will support students in making letters in upper case and lower case, and eventually words. Students can do various blending activities using the Playdough as a manipulative. Letters and words are created in a low stress environment.
The Cricut is not only for making the classroom look attractive, but to support students' learning. I will use the Cricut to letters using different textured paper. Having a tactile manipulative also supports letter formation.
The best part of it all is that students can eventually take home something they created while learning.
