My students are wonderful first and second graders. We have an array of abilities at our school, and I work with many of the first and second graders both in the Gifted program and in their homeroom classes. Many of my students have had challenges thrown at them, but they are resilient and hard working. I have found that by documenting the projects we do and sharing them with the students the work stays with them longer- whether it's a MLK, Jr. portrait they've created, a board game on inventions in the 20th century, or a bog dance out in the courtyard. I believe that my students will be among future leaders. I am trying to encourage them in their potential abilities and talents while blending art, math, and science.
