If this project got funded, I would teach several lessons on the “Zones of Regulation” and how to identify what zone their body is in (fast, slow, just right). When identifying how their body is feeling, students will be able to choose a seating option that can meet their needs and help them get the best out of their brains and bodies at any time. My hope is that, through careful modeling and guidance, students will be thoughtful about their choices and not just thinking about what the “fun” or “cool” option would be. The goal is complete self-regulation and flex seating can help us get there.
