Some of my 4th grade students will be creating musical instruments that can be played by stepping onto a mat on the floor. This project will be presented at our district STEAM Expo as a hands-on activity. The students will be building Step-On Musical Instruments. Students will build the floor mats to look like a musical instrument such as a piano. They will connect these mats to the Makey Makey and code so that each button on the mat will play the correct sounds. Students at the Expo will then be able to step on the instruments to play them. They will present their creations allowing other students to play the instruments while explaining the coding behind it. This will hopefully inspire other students and teachers in the district to explore what they can create.
