Each day students arrive in my classroom ready to learn, and it is vital they read at their own instructional level. By utilizing the ReadLive program for reading intervention, I am able to meet the needs of 15 students at one time. These students qualify for Title 1 and many are also English Learners. They read aloud instructional level passages multiple times and then answer questions and write a retell or summary. In order to do this every student needs a pair of headphones. It is important to help these students early in their education, so that they become lifelong learners. Headphones allow my students to listen to their story multiple times while they speak into the microphone. By reading along with the program the students' fluency increases. I have seen students feel more positive towards reading, and many of the students have increased their fluency by 20 to 30 words a minute. This transfers to the classroom since they have an easier time reading text, which then allows them to focus on comprehension.
