Some of my fondest memories of early literacy are of listening to books read aloud. I can still hear Mrs. Fox's voice growling out the troll's threats or squeaking like a mouse as she shared stories. Then as I learned to read, I mimicked her style to breathe life into those same stories. One dream for my students is that they will approach reading with a sense of enthusiasm; that as they read, they'll give voice to characters and emotion to each scene. Microphone headsets will allow students to not only hear a model of great reading, but equip them to show off their own great reading skills. These headsets will be used as students practice fluency, using their student computers to record their own fluent reading of text. These recordings can be shared with peers, offering students opportunity to build their storytelling skills.
