These materials will enhance learning by "doing." When students actually "do" an experiment, they are able to take their learning to the next level. In Science, students can build with manipulatives and create and solve examples of problems. These materials will allow my students to test different types of electricity, pulleys and levers, and build rollercoasters. Students can also learn through testing and investigating. In both areas, problem-solving will be enhanced. One of the new Science standards involves electricity. The Electricity Activity Tub will allow my students to build simple circuits and explore concepts in depth. The Force and Motion Activity Tub will provide opportunities for my students to build pulleys, ramps, and experiment with Newton's Laws of Motion. The Cells and Organisms Kit will give my students hands-on opportunities to collect and graph data relating to genetics. When using the Matter Kit, students can build molecule models which will help them understand atoms and their makeup. Immediate connections will be made through all of these kits. These materials will make a difference in my students’ learning by allowing them to use their hands to construct models of what they are learning. For example, when leaning about Newton’s Laws of Motion, students can construct ramps to learn first hand about the law of inertia. They could also make a demonstration of a restraint system to better understand the other laws of motion or use the Space Landers to connect with gravity and space. The opportunities are endless! STEM opportunities allow my students to explore. The outcomes will show growth in individual learning. This will give all of my students an opportunity to learn through "doing," no matter what level of learning they are at.
