I am trying to build up my classroom library for first grade students. First grade is the time at which young readers grow the most as readers in one year! To do this, they need to read and read a very large volume of books. There is also a big range of levels that students are reading at any given time. I want to ensure my new students can find interesting new books to read at their current reading level. This is also a critical time to instill the love of reading, especially independent reading. The more books that are accessible to my students, the more likely they are to practice reading. I know how much I like to read a new book, and I know my students do also. We read every day in class, students "book shop" for books to keep in their personal book bin for the week, and we'd would love to have more books available for all students.
