Independent reading has been a cornerstone of my classroom philosophy as a new middle school reading teacher. Students having CHOICE in that reading is also important to me. Throughout the course of this semester, my students have read an average of 1, 100 pages, and we are on-track to read around 1,600 per student by Christmas. Part of what keeps these students interested in books is when I am able to promote the beginning of a series or a favorite author. Having ALL of the books in a series or a favorite author's works in my library gives students an easy choice for their next "read." As I began collecting and purchasing books for my library, my goal was to provide as many quality books as possible. Now I am trying to add specific books to my library to keep students reading titles they will love and recommend to other students. I am so proud of my students' accomplishments, and by partnering with me and funding my Donors Choose, you too can be a part of encouraging a most important "skill"--the enjoyment of reading.
