First grade is the year students blossom as a reader! In order to become a reader, students need access to a variety of books. These books include teacher-read picture books so they can hear what fluent reading sounds like, independently read books to practice reading fluently, and sight word practice to read the high frequency with ease. My goal is to help the students in my class to make the most growth possible as a reader! The books and items included in my project address the multiple aspects to create a diverse and engaging literacy experience. I have included picture books that will be read to the class to create a love of reading, books at various levels for students to read on their own to build self-confidence, flashlights to be used for Flashlight Fridays - reading in the dark to create an excitement for reading, and sight word practice to aid in reading high frequency words with ease. All of these components will help to develop a well rounded reader that is excited about literature.
