According to Psychology Today, “Sandtray therapy is a nonverbal, therapeutic intervention that makes use of a sandbox, toy figures, and sometimes water, to create scenes of miniature worlds that reflect a person’s inner thoughts, struggles, and concerns. This form of play therapy is practiced along with talk therapy, using the sandbox and figures as communication tools.” These counseling tools will help students explore their feelings and their reactions to different situations. While utilizing the sand tray, students can grow and learn about themselves. My students will be self reflective and become more effective problem solvers. As the counselor, I will facilitate a safe, caring environment for my students to learn coping skills.
