This class set of books will help me to inspire students to realize that they too are readers. Dear Martin is a highly engaging text, and many of my students connect deeply to the struggles experienced by the main character, a black teenager trying to make sense of the current political climate. Students find this text not only entertaining, but meaningful and thought-provoking as well. With these new books, we will be able to engage in critical thinking, writing, and discussion about racial justice, economic class, and the American Dream. By donating to our project, you are not only encouraging a love of reading, but contributing to my students' ability to be informed citizens in a complex world.
