Our Cool Down Corner will serve a preventative purpose where a student can voluntarily go when they identify triggers that frustrate, anger or sadden them while in their learning environment. At my school teachers are required to have a safe space/cool-down area in the classroom which we have not yet completed due to lack of resources. As teachers, it is important for us to teach students productive and healthy ways to deal with emotions such as anger, sadness or frustration. Our goal for providing students with the resources requested will provide them with tools to deal with these emotions in a healthy way; classroom culture will improve as a result of these resources and potential disruption to the learning environment. The first step in doing this is being proactive and ready for a child who needs some additional help with coping skills within the classroom.
