The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The large sensory balls, sensory bean bags, and sensory materials will be split into two different classrooms, our Pre-k and high school significant disabilities classrooms. They will be placed in our “calm down centers” so when our students get overwhelmed they can put themselves in the “calm down center” for self stimulation to calm sensory overload. The activities ordered will give the students hands-on learning experiences so they not only hear the information about basic concepts but they can also see them, touch them, and manipulate them to make these concepts more concrete. The visual timer will be used so that my students know how much work time they have left before they get a break. This helps them better understand the concept of time and helps create a more rigorous schedule to keep them on task. Detailed scheduling is essential for students with disabilities so they know what to expect and what is excepted of them and helps overall academic learning. All the materials I have requested can also help stimulate communication and language skills. These materials will be used both in the students’ daily classrooms and by me as their Speech Therapist to enhance speech and language learning and communication skills.
