The students are surrounded by violence in their community and we want to make the environment beautiful and welcoming. The students will be able to give back their school community and this will increase students' ownership and pride. The garden that we will be starting this school year will teach students how to care for another living thing that will also increase their accountability. The supplies will be used for many seasons. The shovels will be used to create holes for the plants, the rakes will be used to spread mulch and to maintain the area. The garden hoes will allow the students to break up soil while they are planting flowers. I requested four of each tool because we have many students who will be helping and we have a large area to maintain. The students will be responsible for researching which plants and vegetables to grow in the garden and this will be used as a project based learning experience. Their results will be used to determine what we will plant and how we will maintain them.
