My students are struggling readers. A portion of our leveled reading program is independent reading where I take time to work one on one with students to assist with their fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The current seating situation is not able to foster a love of reading and is not conducive to 1:1 discussion. At the moment, each of the groups of students work at a half table or a grouping of desks. Our chairs are mismatched and uncomfortable. I want to provide my students with a comfortable, inviting space to read so they can love reading like I do. A comfortable rug, bean bag chairs, and saucer chairs would make the reading space more inviting and the whisper phones will help them read quietly while still being able to hear themselves. The magnetic letters would also be an amazing tactile resource to have when we do our work work lessons.
