The name project specifically has students investigate the origin of his or her name and why it was given to them. It concludes with an image of the child on a painted surface and an essay attached to it about their name. With my art students, they will artistically draw their name for their silhouette portraits, investigate why they were named as they were, as well as a deep dive into finding artifacts from the home and interviewing their parents about their cultural identity. For active research for this grant I am presently working with the fourth grade team and have launched an experimental interdisciplinary project. The fourth grade art students are creating abstract painted background papers for their silhouettes. They will also decide on how to display their names artistically within their silhouette. The black mat frames will give the artwork a polished and professional finishing for the students.
