Each day, when we are practicing grammar and vocabulary, my students take out their dry erase boards. Each student as his/her/their own dry erase board and marker. This ensures that all students are participating and learning. Additionally, since they have their own materials, they can work at their own pace and they must depend on their own work. They cannot see the other students' work so it keeps them from copying and helps them to focus on their own work. Individual practice and repetition is so beneficial in language learning, but it's so difficult to create in a language classroom. Dry erase boards and markers make that possible. Since we use them so often, we go through markers very quickly. It has come to the point where students need to share one marker between three of them because we have so few markers. This is negatively affecting their learning.
