Communication is essential in our daily lives. Everyone deserves a voice and to be heard. But for some students, the nature of their disability impacts their ability to communicate and be heard. To support these students I have used communication books with picture icons, designated speech output devices, and high tech options like an iPad. Due to Covid-19 guidelines students are unable to share communication materials previously used with multiple students. As students return to in-person instruction it is essential that they have the means to communicate with staff and peers. Through the use of these books, students will learn to have their wants and needs met, build interpersonal relationships, reduce frustration, and increase their participation and independence across school environments. Let’s help students to improve their quality of life and find their voice.
