The majority of my students struggle to master basic language skills such as identifying word relationships, describing differences in objects, comprehending stories, summarizing events, and using vocabulary relevant to classroom or community themes. The 'Community Block Play' people and 'Around Town' play mat will allow my preschool students to engage in role-play scenarios while developing foundational vocabulary and comprehension of simple directions. The 'Touch and Learn Picture Cards' and '"What's Inside?" Soft Feely Box' will give early elementary students a platform to use descriptive and comparative language. The magnetic story telling kits and additional classroom books will bolster the vocabulary and story retell skills of my elementary-aged students. The majority of my students come from low-income households; it is exciting to see them interact in a positive way with quality educational materials. While the materials in this project do not fall into a single category or constitute one classroom project, each item will help me cater to the individual needs of each student on my caseload. In addition to the therapy materials, the office supplies included in this project (e.g., file folders, envelopes, note cards, etc.) will allow me to maintain organized records and communicate with parents. As a special education provider, maintenance of records and progress reporting is a key part of my job.
