Independent reading is a huge part of my curriculum. Daily, we spend ten minutes at the start of every class reading, and students also are expected to read twenty minutes a night at home. In my classroom, I try to foster a love of reading by providing books that mirror students worlds, as well as give them insight into the lives of others. Much of a student's ability to read stems from their stamina, and I aim to help them build it in cultivating a reading community. Everyone is a reader, but some have not found their favorite book yet. I aim to create a classroom library that is diverse, inviting, and inclusive in order to help them grow as readers.
