Teenagers would rather watch Netflix, play video games, or text their friends than pick up a book. Often I hear parents tell me that their child "used to read" when they were younger. My goal this year is to make students rediscover their passion for reading. I want to build a young adult library for my students, as well as provide my English Language Learners a variety of young adult books in their native language, and audiobooks in English. My hope for my ELL students is to build their love for reading in their native language and then provide the English equivalent to build their English vocabulary. Often times, starting with the English novel will deter them since it can be too difficult. Overall, reading provides many skills for students. By providing popular and relatable books for students will help cultivate my goal of loving to read. I started building my library but it is very small and costly. Having books in my classroom will provide easy access and build community.
