Students in my room would really benefit from having the opportunity to move while learning. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. 60% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. If I were to receive the funds for this project I would be able to purchase these wonderful inflatable wobble cushions for each of my 25 students, along with a few extra chairs in the event I have new students or something happens to one.
These special inflatable seats can be used on the floor or on a chair to make flexible seating anywhere! According to the website, "Our super-durable vinyl cushions are specially designed to let students wiggle and wobble while they sit…helping children focus as they move. The cushions feature large nubs on one side and small nubs on the other—students simply select the sensory surface they prefer!" It would allow all of my students to move as they work.
I firmly believe second-grade students need to move. I give my class frequent movement breaks and we move around from the whole group to small groups frequently. I feel like these chairs would be a perfect compliment to my teaching style and my students' learning styles. An added benefit to this grant is that it will help new groups of students each year. So while your initial financial support will benefit 25 of my students, it will help 25 more students next year and the year after that.
