These library sets, bookcases, and chairs are the basic core components upon which we will build our classroom library. Our classroom library is both a place of learning enrichment and a reward for completing assignments. All books are treated with respect, love, and care because we know that they are a shared resource for the entire community to use. These titles have been selected because they provide a range of interests, abilities, and genres. Our goal is to have every student become a lover of books. These new books will allow our students to choose books that interest them and encourage them to read independently. All students should have the option to read at their level and have books that will help them reach the next level. The best way to create young readers is to give them a choice in books and encouragement to explore the world in print form. We read together, but self-selecting books in a critical step in helping students develop a reading identity. These books will allow them to do that.
