Since I teach K-6, it is a big task to find the best ways to teach to all of their needs with not a lot of equipment. We include most students with special needs in PE class as well, and they usually need softer, modified equipment that we don't have. I am lucky to have a part-time PE teacher working with me, but that also means we have to share equipment. For example, we have about 10 cones total to split between us, and for some units that just doesn't work. We recently had a Frisbee unit where we started with 15 Frisbees. By the end of the unit, we had six left because so many broke. I want them to have durable equipment, including Frisbees, that are also less likely to hurt the students. I need jerseys so that it is easier for the students and me to tell teams apart. I have a lot of fun units planned this year. It's important for me to have a whiteboard so students can see what they are doing for the day and the cues to help them with skills they will be learning in units. I would like to have a place to write their target goals for the day/unit as well. I also have room in my year plan for a lot of fun games. One of these games is Pin Knockdown that requires the soft foam balls I put on my wish list. The students have to work on throwing accuracy as they try to knock down the other team's pins and protect their own. This game tends to be a student favorite, and I really want to incorporate fun games like this that help students practice important physical skills (possibly without them realizing it).
