I am striving to build a dynamic and culturally responsive classroom library that is appropriate for my students based on their literacy development and interests. My students love to read and get excited when I tell them that they have time to get lost in a good book. Keeping students engaged in reading is imperative for their intellectual growth. Books are not only resources for developing the essential literacy skills/strategies needed for a student to become a proficient reader. Books expose children to ideas, concepts, and cultures they have yet to be exposed to. A diverse library will help children become well-rounded individuals in regards to their intellectual, social, and emotional development. As a new teacher, I would like to provide my students the opportunity enhance their understanding of the world through a captivating classroom library.
