We are asking for multiple copies of select titles known for their focus on social justice issues. Titles are also chosen to reflect the cultural diversity of our community. When seeking out these titles, we could not locate them within our school book database. Students will choose from 9 separate titles to form groups of 3 with their book clubs. While given an outline for expectations and roles within the book clubs, they will have autonomy in how they choose to run their club. As they are reading, they will examine the text for greater themes of social justice to use in a culminating action project decided upon by the group members. This project can come in many different formats - video, podcast, service project, artwork - whatever they feel meets the needs and strengths of the group. The focus will be on advocacy and our universe of obligation as vital members of the larger community.
