In order to meet NGSS Science Engineering standards, students are required to create models to show relationships in biological systems. Currently, students are making these models out of construction paper, pipe cleaners, and macaroni. With the 3D printer filament, students will be able to make more sophisticated 3D models to prepare them for careers in both science and engineering. Models we will make this year include: 1) Cells showing how cells maintain homeostasis 2) Cell membranes showing active and passive transport 3) Mitochondria and chloroplasts showing photosynthesis and cellular respiration 4) DNA showings transcription and translation 5) Cross over with chromosomes showing genetic variation
