Even as a first-year teacher, I recognize the value of incorporating STEM into our everyday curriculum. Today’s kids are highly advanced in their abilities to navigate and utilize technology, and many of their hobbies and interests are centered around this, as well. Finding ways to bring this into our classrooms and incorporate it into our lessons yields higher student engagement, and ultimately, more learning. This is exactly what my first-grade team plans to do with the Ozobot Bit Maker sets. For an upcoming STEM lesson, we plan to integrate Social Studies and Science standards as students create a color-coded map that follows the trail of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Using the Ozobot, students will have to navigate around inclement weather and various land formations.
