The goals for the school establishing a track team are (1) to respond to a student request in support of student voice, and (2) to promote the development of life skills such as: effective communication, leadership, the ability to persevere through trials and how to work as a member of a team. Since this is our first year with a track & field team in the state athletic association, they are also learning about the importance of understanding, and following, rules, as well as exactly how important the "student" part of "student-athlete" is to success both on and off the track. Our girls are dedicated to establishing a strong team that will leave a legacy for years to come. Some of our seniors said they have joined the team because they want to be a part of building something new to the school that will leave an impact on the school and students in the future. Our students are passionate about athletics and have been asking to expand the program. Administration recognized their passion and granted their request, but since we are a small school in an independent charter, there is limited funding available. Our students are meeting the challenge! They have organized a fundraising night at a local restaurant, a raffle, are selling snacks to peers and collecting donations from friends and family. They are working to see their dream come to fruition and we are doing everything we can to support their dream becoming reality!
