At this age, students are still learning how to handle their feelings. This can be hard for them, especially when they become upset. My goal is to create a space for them to use as sort of an escape when they need to take a break and get their body and mind ready for learning. The sensory materials, such as the stress balls, fidget tools, glitter jars, and weighted stuffed animal, will all be placed in this area. When students feel the need, they may use these tools for their benefit. How a classroom is set up is going to set the tone for student learning. In my classroom, the lights are normally dimmed and we constantly listen to acoustic calming music. This creates a calm environment for the students. The essential oils and diffuser will be used to add to this calmness. Essential oils have many benefits, and I can't wait to see them in action in my classroom!
