I am requesting a heavy duty rectangular activity table for an alternative to sitting at individual desks. This non-traditional seating will help these students learn to work with peers, and allow them to benefit from a group setting. Currently we are using typical student desks, but this does not foster the cohesiveness and group dynamics that I am working to build within the classroom. I believe that my students need to learn appropriate social skills, skills focused around executive functioning, day to day social norms, as well as participating in daily group counseling sessions based on the group needs. I am teaching and working with students as “the whole student”, not just focusing solely on academics, and this seating will allow growth in all areas!!
