Bringing guest children's author Drew Daywalt will create a lasting impression on students. This project will allow students to make a connection between the author and written word. It will inspire students to pursue creative endeavors, and connect lessons learned in their classrooms with the world. When an author discusses writing and the creative process, students connect with the written word in entirely new ways. This generates an enthusiasm not only for reading more books, but also a greater variety of books. Hearing from an author in person puts a human face on a book, which often snowballs into an increased interest in books in general. Students who meet an author in person are exposed to the idea that writing is a career available to anyone.
