My students have the opportunity to learn several different styles of dance in one short semester during their 6th grade experience. In this time, we dive into jazz, tap, musical theater, ballet and hip hop. They are able to learn the vocabulary associated with each style, the beginning technical skills, and learn choreography in each style. It is not financially possible to take my students to a broadway performance and with local field trips being cut due to covid, getting them to a local theater is even out of the question. If I had the ability to project broadway musicals and professional dance performances-I could bring the experience into our classroom. Not to mention, when my own students perform for their peers in class, and on stage for a live audience, these performances could be recorded and later shown to the students as a great way to self reflect on what went well and what could be improved upon. This is a great tool that I currently try to use, but showing their performance from my small laptop screen to a room full of 20+ students is not ideal. A projector would be much more effective.
