The students in our 6th grade classroom come from many different demographics. We have some that go home to love and warmth and some that have no place to go. We are a very high poverty school, and this causes an array of different struggles for majority of our students. Over 90% live in poverty and they still come to school eager to learn, and for many, this is that place where they feel appreciated and worthy. The students may not have control over their current situations, but they do have control of their education and the life they want to build.
As teachers, we love to see the eagerness and drive in all of our students to change their story. We push them to learn but we also understand that each student has a different background and struggle, because of different learning styles and needs we differentiate. A lot of the student course work is online in modules, this way students can watch the teacher and write the notes at their own pace. They can also complete the work and go back to videos if needed. But with a lot of the students struggling to get basic supplies, earbuds are hard to come by. Students need the earbuds to listen to videos and complete their work at their level. With no earbuds, the sounds in the classroom can become very distracting. With the use of the earbuds, multiple teachers can circulate the room and provide support to the students.
Please contribute and give all my students the chance to expand their education. Give them the chance to learn at their own pace and create their own journey. Thank you for taking the time to read my request!
