This novel will allow students to read and discuss about several issues that have shaped and evolved our country. Students will see a world of racism, social injustice, and poverty through the eyes of a young child. This life-changing novel will allow my students to challenge old traditions and gain the courage it takes to stand up for what is right! As students read through the experiences of the Finches in a prejudiced world, they will begin to challenge the views of the people from the 1930s and perhaps their own personal views. In addition, the language and word choice will enhance their reading and vocabulary skills.
