Being a Kindergarten teacher, it is imperative that my students get a fundamental grasp of language at this age, as it will set them up for success later on in their scholarly careers. Most of my students are English learners and are at a disadvantage compared to their counterparts who learn English as a first language. Traditional education to English learning is often dull and uninviting to students, which is why an alternative is needed. Through my student's passion and excitement for art, I seek to teach them English in a way that makes them excited to learn. Art gives my students a way to learn pattern recognition through sorting and identifying patterns, sharing and explaining their creations to the class, and building words not only phonetically, but physically. Instead of a one size fits all way of teaching language, I will use art to let them learn in a way they feel excited about.
