I read Elie Wiesel's "Night" in my high school Language Arts class, but realized I could easily combine the topics and discussion questions into my class's learning of the Holocaust this year - especially because they are curious as to what life was like for those who were truly impacted during this era. I truly believe in the importance of blending History and Language Arts to help keep historical memory alive, and want my students to leave my class this year with that mentality. I've taught both subjects and realize that they truly can make an impact on how a student interprets history if they have a literary background supplementing their learning. I would like to read "Night" as a class to help my students understand the significance of the Holocaust.
