The titles on my list were carefully selected to represent the personal cultural experiences of children throughout American history. The book club will invite dialogue and discussion about the factors that combine to impact our individual lives. This project will foster compassion for others. This project will broaden my students' perspective and understanding that throughout history, life experience in America is contextual. Time and place, along with other human characteristics and conditions impact experience. Life in America is not a monolith, and this is what gives our country its unique quality and capacity to embrace differences, and to connect us all in the American story.
