There's a book out there for everyone! This is what I tell my students all the time. The ideal classroom library in our 3rd grade bilingual classroom would have a wide selection of books, in every genre, in both Spanish and English. ¡Un libro para cada joven lector! (A book for every young reader!) Unfortunately finding high-quality, high interest books in Spanish is no easy feat. School and public libraries often have a limited Spanish selection. Used book stores rarely have Spanish books, and Spanish titles are often more expensive than English titles. I would love to be able to provide a selection of books that are interesting and encourage my students to read and develop their Spanish literacy skills. Dual literacy is a gift that requires constant application or it won't develop. Many of my students are reluctant readers but when they find a book that interests them, they become immersed in the experience. With your help, I would be able to add a great selection of popular Spanish books to my classroom library, bringing us a huge step closer to having libros for everyone!
