Many of the students I work with on a daily basis with autism have sensory needs and struggle to complete tasks. Adding a variety of sensory items to my classroom will allow my students to have a space where they can meet their sensory needs. When they feel agitated, the items will help to calm them so they can refocus and get back to learning. The liquid floor tiles will satisfy their sensory needs while working on building motor skills. The tabletop light panel will help students practice identifying letters, numbers, and sorting by category or colors. The giant tracing numbers will help my students to be able to practice writing their numbers that they have difficulty writing without tracing. Since I only teach math to my students with autism (another special education teacher teaches reading), the variety of math manipulatives that focus on number recognition and counting will increase their math ability.
