The New York State School Counselor Association Conference is one that I typically attend every year. Due to the budgets cuts in our district, there is no funding for professional development.
Attending this conference is very important to me because it allows me to bring back new ideas and information to my entire department, not only at the high school level but, in our middle school and alternative school.
During the first day of the conference, I will get to attend an in depth presentation on "School Counselor Response and Intervention for Students' Mental Health Needs." This topic is extremely important in "normal school years" but even more so this year since we have so many students not coming to or engaging in school. On days 2 & 3 of the conference, I will have the opportunity to attend 6 different breakout sessions.
The information that I receive from this conference is invaluable. I will use everything that I learn and incorporate it into our Comprehensive School Counseling Plan. This plan is used to provide curriculum, support, and guidance to the students in our district, K-12.
