Our 2nd grade team recently attended a workshop over the summer about using mentor texts to teach reading and writing to our students. These high interest books were picked to add to our collections to inspire our students from all cultures to read and write. We chose books that our students can relate to and ones that provide strong life messages. They will be used to teach comprehension skills, vocabulary, conventions and text structure. Students will study how the author uses words to tell a story and describe things as they learn to apply the skills they learned from published authors when writing. These books will be available to read in class and at home.
