My project is amazingly simple: let a child choose book of interest and he/she will read! Children are constantly surrounded by technology, which certainly has its place; but students also need time to turn off technology and things that flash and loose themselves in a good book. Students will simply be given the opportunity to read without other activities taking place that might draw their attention. I will quietly move through the room to conference with individuals. I may ask them to tell me about the book or have them read aloud to me. This will give me insight into the choices they have made and if necessary redirect the student in his/her choice. At the end of 20 minutes, the students may find a friend and share information about what they are reading. A couple of times a week the student will respond to a written prompt about their current book. So, please know that if you are willing to assist us in our pursuit of learning to love and value books, it will be so, so appreciated.
