I would like to create a listening center for my students to use freely. This will allow them to listen to audiobooks either on their own or with a friend. I believe that following along visually while listening can enhance word-recognition ability, while listening alone can expand vocabulary! Audiobooks are both FUN and have been proven successful in providing a way for students to access literature/books. The listening centers would introduce students to books above their reading level, model good interpretive reading, and teach critical listening. These listening materials would last for several years of low-income students to learn and grow in the classroom!
